FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY "LIVING IS SIMPLE"?

There are 4 core behaviors that are the foundation of your health: eating, moving, sleeping and balancing your stress. But how much, how often and in what way will look different for each family. I have helped hundreds of people personalize and integrate health information into practical lifestyle changes.

We live in a world/culture that keeps telling us our health is much more complicated than we can imagine. From my experience in the nutrigenomic world looking at the nuances and complexities of health – the good news is that it really does all come back to these core behaviors; though challenging to change, they are relatively simple in a world of big data and conflicting health headlines.

WHAT WILL WE DO IN THAT 1 HR CONSULT?

We’ll get grounded in who you are, what you want/needanswer any questions you have, and discuss strategies to fill the gaps between what you know and what you do on a day to day basis for your health. We’ll set up a plan to move you forward and discuss what level of accountability you need for ongoing progress.

  • Most people benefit from 3-4 additional 30 minute sessions for follow up, additional support, tweaking their plan and/or answering questions that come up along the way.

WHERE DO WE MEET?

Video or phone call for all consultations. When you schedule your appointment please keep this in mind.

Workshops that are offered will be held in the surrounding Seattle, WA area and locations will be posted.

WHAT DOES NON-DIET MEAN?

As Geneen Roth so aptly says "...when a woman's energy is tied up in judging her body, it ties up her power as well."

With my background in both psychology and nutritional biochemistry, I have learned and researched the long term effects that restrictive and fad diets have on your brain and your body. Working with hundreds of clients over the years, I've seen that people can make a scale move by doing a wide variety of things that don’t actually benefit them or their health long term.

I am a Health At Every Size practitioner who believes that your health evolves as you grow in critical awareness, respect and compassion of yourself, your body, and the dynamic world around you.

DO YOU WORK ONLY WITH WOMEN?

I specialize in areas of preconception, prenatal and moms raising young kids, but in the past I have worked with males and females of a variety of ages, backgrounds and conditions. If you are curious if we are a good fit for each other, please sign up for a free 15 minute consult and we can discuss your best options!

WHY SPECIALIZE?

Most women underestimate the importance of the 6 months to a year prior to conception. And yet, those first few months of pregnancy your tiny human is living off of your nutrient stores from the previous months - giving you peace of mind during those days when you can't keep your prenatal vitamins down and the only things you can stomach are saltines and ginger ale. (It's not always that bad in the first trimester!)

My pregnancies and subsequent foray into motherhood taught me, and continues to teach me, how important it is for women/mothers to embrace their role as the linchpin in their family's health.

I specialize not because I have it all figured out, but because these are seasons of life that are important and most conducive to behavior change.

My heart is in public health and prevention of commonly accepted "inevitable diseases." The best place to start is at the genetic level, which is most influenced in the formative months of preconception, pregnancy and the early years of life, to set the foundation for our kids' relationship with food and their bodies in the years to come.

Motherhood is hard enough. You're resetting your rhythms and routines and figuring out how to keep tiny humans alive and ideally, thriving. We could all use some positive reaffirming that we are doing the best we can and adding to our tool box every little bit we can.

HOW DOES A FOOD AND BODY THERAPIST DIFFER FROM TALKING TO A TRADITIONAL DIETITIAN?

Traditional outpatient or dietitian consultations involve you being on the receiving end of a lot of information and knowledge about food and nutrition. Food Therapy is aimed at evolving your fundamental relationship with food and your body. Just as in successful therapy sessions of any kind, you will share where you are coming from, what you already know and spend time uncovering what you need more of in order to put that knowledge into action and continually transform your relationship with food, your body, and the dynamic world around you.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

I am currently in the process of contracting with Premera, Regency and Aetna Insurance plans. Check with me before booking to confirm.

While I am out of network for any other insurance companies, you can often get partial or full reimbursement by submitting what is known as a Superbill and Receipt after our session(s). Be sure to call your Insurance carrier for more details and an explanation of benefits.

I offer a "Pay What You Can" day once a month to accommodate those who do not have insurance or are experiencing financial hardship. Send me a message at the bottom of this page to let me know if you would like more information on upcoming dates and availability.

CAN I PAY USING FSA OR HSA?

As with out of network, it is your responsibility to check with your insurance carrier and tax accountant on what is and is not advisable with FSA or HSA spending, that being said, I have had clients choose to pay using these savings accounts and submit for reimbursement.
